Feb,

No offense meant to you personally, I just like lively discussion. I'm going to disagree to you on inspections being worth it, even "if only one life is saved". Many things can save one life. The question becomes one of whether the cost and intrusion on liberty and further degradation of the natural and historical requirement in the United States (the last nation on earth to continue to hold out any hope for the individual against the collective onslaught of the rest of the world) for members of society to "self regulate" and be personally responsible for their actions is worth the saving of "one life". If I look, I can come up with many cases where I could save "one life" with just a little intrusion upon others. If everyone were forced to ride public transportation we could save "one life". If everyone were forced to turn in all firearms we could save "one life". If everyone were just taxed an extra few thousand dollars a year to fund the welfare state we could save "one life". If we would force all people to follow the path of Islam we could save "one life".

The list of "wants" is endless, and any intrusion on the individual and their liberties should be fought when there is even a shadow of doubt as to the wisdom of implementing that intrusion.

How's that for a rant? Just my opinion. I could be wrong...but I'm not.
